The fifth annual “Be a Hero, Golf with a Hero” tournament, in support of Burns Memorial Fund, is fast approaching.  This year, courtesy of Silvertip Golf Resort, we are offering an Early Bird draw for golfers who register before July 30, 2011.  The lucky winner will receive Two Free Rounds of Golf at Silvertip, to be used in the 2011 season.  The draw will be made on August 1, 2011.

Burns Memorial Fund will be holding its 5th annual ‘Be a Hero, Golf with a Hero’ tournament on September 16, 2011. The Calgary Fire Department and the Calgary Police Service, along with ATCO Gas, have joined forces in support of a fun-filled fundraising golf tournament at Silvertip Golf Resort in Canmore. Together, we are offering you the opportunity to improve the lives of Calgary children.

We invite you to be a hero and participate in the “Be a Hero, Golf with a Hero” event through one of the many sponsorship opportunities available. This is your chance to enjoy the day with a local hero, as a proud member of either the Calgary Fire Department or the Calgary Police Service will join your team.

Last year, the ‘Be a Hero, Golf with a Hero’ golf tournament raised almost $12,000, bringing our four year total to $78,000. This money is used to support Calgary children in need and their families. With these dollars, Burns Memorial Fund is able to:

• Help families by providing financial support for needs such as children’s health, education, and recreation needs, OR
• Provide support to keep high school students in school, OR
• Give grants to community organizations working with children, OR
• Fund orthodontic care for children.

The 2010 tournament was a fun success. We continue to need your help more than ever. The Fund’s revenues are generated from the estate of Senator Patrick Burns, which has been severely impacted by recent market conditions. That means our resources are decreasing as the need in the community rises. You can help by hitting the links with members of the Calgary Police Service and Calgary Fire Department. It’s the perfect way to close out your golfing season!

The sponsoring organizations are pleased to provide Burns Memorial Fund with the net proceeds from this tournament. We hope to raise $59,000, at an estimated cost of $44,000.
