High School Students


Burns Memorial Fund oversees the granting of bursaries and scholarships for Calgary high school students in financial need. Information on the granting opportunities is provided below.

Application Download Instructions:

High School Bursary Program


This program is for Calgary high school students who are within two semesters of graduating from grade 12 and who are at risk of dropping out of school for financial reasons. A basic living allowance is provided to assist students in covering expenses such as rent, food and transportation. Attendance and marks are monitored monthly. Students require a referral from their high school counsellor and are interviewed by our grants manager.

This program is partially funded by United Way of Calgary and Area, the Pam Andrew Marks High School Bursary Fund, and the Ruth Ramsden-Wood Education Fund.

Senator Patrick Burns Legacy Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to high school students living in low-income circumstances, who seek assistance with post-secondary training or education expenses. Note: The number of scholarships and award amounts vary each year.

The scholarship is open to high school students residing in Calgary who are 21 years of age or under. Students must be graduating in June and have plans to pursue post-secondary education in the fall (September). To apply, applicants must submit a completed application form along with a counsellor recommendation form.


How to Apply

To apply, please submit the following documents:

  • Completed application form
  • Letter outlining your post-secondary education plans
  • Grade 10-12 transcripts
  • Counsellor referral form (included with the scholarship application form)
  • Financial documents
